DESAULT Pierre-Joseph Journal de chirurgie A Paris, Chez l'Auteur, 1791-1792. Série de 4 ouvrages in-8 reliés pleine basane de l'époque. Dos lisse avec pièce de titre havane et pièce de tomaison noire. Tranches rouges. Edition originale. Complété de 6 planches gravées dont le portrait de Desault dessiné par Cochin et gravé par Cathelin. Vol1: titre, 388pp, 3 gravures p47, p106, p193; vol2: titre,400pp; vol3: titre384pp, gravure p96; vol4: titre, 368pp,gravures p195, p268. Pierre-Joseph Desault (1744-1795), cultiva dès son plus jeune âge l'art des mathématiques au point qu'il traduisit l'ouvrage de Borelli "De motu animalium". Avide de connaissances, acharné de travail il ouvre dès 1766 des cours d'anatomie chirurgicale qui eurent beaucoup de succès à Paris.Dès 1788, il créa la première école clinique qui réunit plus de 600 auditeurs français et étrangers, venant apprendre la chirurgie. Dès 1791, il fait paraître son Journal de chirurgie, rédigé par ses élèves destiné à publier les cas les plus intéressants et un extrait de ses leçons. Il inventa des appareils de réduction des fractures, simplifia la pratique de la chirurgie, bannit l'exécution de la trépanantion pour les plaies de la tête, découvrit l'exitence des cartilages et sut en réaliser l'extraction. Meurt d'une maladie foudroyante en 1795, son journal sera poursuivi dès la page 195 par son élève Xavier Bichat. Ce dernier rédigera dans le volume 4 une courte notice biographique sur Desault. He also was one of the first to have a clear understanding of urological diseases. At the same time Desault is considered one of the founders of modern vascular surgery. He made many suggestions regarding the treatment of fractures and dislocations and is one of the foundrs of modern vascular surgery.
