First Edition. 8vo - over 7¾" - 9¾" First edition of the 1802 Supplement volume to this pioneering bibliographic work (a precursor to Brunet), the first volume of which was issued in 1791. Published anonymously. Bound in period quarter brown speckled calf over opaste-paper boards with vellum corners, spine with contrasting red and black morocco labels and gilt titling and ruling. An exceptional copy with only minor wear. According to Querard La France lit.; Barbier, Dict. des ouvrages anon.; and Michaud Biog. univ., the work of the preface to the supplement of the work itself, pub. in 1802, ascribe it to l'abbe Duclos and C.A. Cailleau. According to La grande encyclopedie, Cailleau 'netait que l'editeur.'.
