Soft cover. Etat : Good. No Jacket. 1st Edition. 70 pages b/w photos - In the 1880s the Queensland Railways extended their railway system south from Brisbane to serve the Logan Valley and the first train steamed into Beaudesert on 16 March 1888. The line made a junction with the railway from Brisbane to Beenleigh at Bethania, and eventually became the Beaudesert branch of the South Coast railway. The 3ft 6in gauge Beaudesert Shire Tramway was one of fifteen light railways built in Queensland by various Divisional Boards or their successors, the Shire Councils, and embraced three gauges: 3ft 6in, 2ft 6in and 2ft. These light railways were originally built to develop areas not served by rail, the finance for their construction being loan by the Government. All have now ceased to be owned by Shire Councils - some were closed, others were taken over by the Government and became part of the Queensland Railways system, whilst the 2ft gauge lines were incorporated wholly or in part into sugar mill tramway systems.
