The First American edition of Miller's first book for which he would earn literary immortality. This is the issue published in light green boards. Shifreen & Jackson A9. However this copy has been rebound in 1/4 deep green leather and green boards and is quite bright and attractive as such. Titles, Publisher and Date ( 1940) in gilt on the spine. There were 1000 copies of the Medusa edition printed by the publisher Jacob Brussel who eventually went to prison for publishing pornography. After which there were between 200 and 500 extra copies which went to New York and were sold privately. A lovely example of the 1st American edition of this literary highspot of the modern era. The contents is in very good, clean and tight condition. This copy has been Signed and dated by Miller on the front page. Inscription reads . Henry Miller, Chicago 3/6/1941.
