Description du livre : The Columba Press, Dublin, 2012. Soft Cover. État : New. First Edition. Since her first mention in the Bible, Mary the Mother of God has been at the heart of the Christian story and Christian tradition. Chris O'Donnell takes 40 key references to Mary, from the gospels, to the writings of Christian mystics, to Byzantine liturgy and to the documents of Vatican II and reflects on the wide range of ideas and presentations of Mary which are available to all of us. From the familiar devotions Hail Mary, the Angelus and the Rosary, to not so well known references in Vatican documents and the Code of Canon Law, the author provides a range of texts and reflections on the meaning and role of the Mother of God, both in the gospel stories and in our everyday lives. The position of Mary in the Protestant tradition and in the Byzantine tradition is also reflected upon in this collection. Even for those who feel they are familiar with Mary, this book is a treasure chest of new insight and understanding. Chris O'Donnell is a Carmelite Father. He currently works at Terenure College, Dublin. 64 pages. Shipping costs are based on the matrix proposed by AbeBooks and are quoted at the maximum level. Description du livre : Saint Albert's Press, Faversham, 2012. Soft Cover. État : New. Kelly, Anne (illustrateur). First Edition. The Stations of the Cross help us follow Jesus through his passion, death and resurrection. In this series of fresh meditations, Monsignor Matthew Dickens helps Christians to retrace Jesus' "steps of pain and steps of hope", encouraging them on the journey through life. Jesus' journey to the Crucifixion and beyond it into the Resurrection reveals that the Christian hope is not an empty dream. The risen Lord will lead us to his Kingdom, however frail our faith may be and however heavily our sins may weigh us down. These beautiful meditations, rooted in Scripture and the experience of daily living, will be a source of inspiration to all who want to follow Jesus through the cross to new life. This 40 -page book is beautifully illustrated by artist Anne Kelly. Monsignor Matthew Dickens served as assistant and parish priest in several parishes in South London and Kent before being appointed Vicar General and Chancellor of the Archdiocese of Southwark in 2009. This is his first publication, printed by Saint Albert's Press (the British Province of Carmelites). 'It is very helpful to read fresh reflections which focus on the mystery of the Passion. Steps of Pain, Steps of Hope by Monsignor Matthew Dickens is a fresh and moving meditation. I warmly welcome these Stations of the Cross and hope that they will be read and reflected upon by many Christians.' + Cardinal Cormac Murphy-O'Connor. Description du livre : Saint Albert's Press & Edizioni Carmelitane, Faversham & Rome, 2012. Soft Cover. État : New. First Edition. In the life and death of Jesus, the Good News of God's love for all humanity was revealed. Seeing His Son nailed to a cross did not make the Father reject us; instead He offered us even more hope and love through the resurrection. In this beautiful set of reflections on Mark's Gospel, Father Joseph Chalmers gives a fresh perspective on the traditional practice of tracing Jesus' Passion through the 'Stations of the Cross'. After setting Mark's Gospel in context and exploring its layers of meaning through informative scriptural commentary, Fr. Joseph considers how God's Word might lead us into a deeper relationship with God through prayer and service. As Prior General of the Carmelites (1995-2007), a religious order which puts particular emphasis on pondering God's Word, Most Rev. Fr. Joseph Chalmers has shared with people across the world his experience of how God speaks words of love today through the Bible. In this, his third book of Bible meditations, Fr. Joseph engages with the challenge of aggressive secularism, encourages Christians to stand up for the Kingdom values Jesus taught, and prompts readers to put their love of God into active service of the marginalised. Father Joseph reveals how meditating upon Scripture can lead into vocal, mental and silent prayer. Drawing from the Christian contemplative tradition, particularly the teachings of Saint Teresa of Avila, he shows how we can deepen our friendship with the God that we know loves us, as proved by the Passion of Christ. 176 pages. Free bookmark enclosed. "This is indeed a book not just for Lent but for any time we wish to indulge in guided prayer throughout the year recommend this book to those who wish to immerse themselves in the account of the Passion of Our Lord from St. Mark's Gospel, thus strengthening their own Christian faith and their desire for Christian action." + Cardinal Keith O'Brien, Archbishop of St. Andrews & Edinburgh. Description du livre : Edizioni Carmelitane, 1997. Soft Cover. État : New. Description du livre : Edizioni Carmelitane, Rome, 2010. Paperback. État : New. First Edition. This collection of reflections on Carmelite spirituality began as individual talks or letters during the second term of Fr. Joseph Chalmers, O.Carm., as Prior General of the Carmelite Order (2001-2007). Some of the reflections are directed more specifically towards Lay Carmelites, whilst others have Carmelite religious in view, but anyone inspired by the rich heritage of "Carmel" will find something of tremendous value in this book. With his broad experience of Carmelite life around the globe, the author perceives many reasons for the Carmelite Family to find hope today. Above all, Carmel is seen as "a school for prayer", and its long tradition is viewed with an eye to the future. Father Joseph is the author of several books on Carmel, including In Allegiance to Jesus Christ, Mary the Contemplative, and The Sound of Silence. This latest book builds on those foundations to remind us that Carmelite spirituality is directed towards purifying our image of God and every aspect of our lives so that we might be what God has created each one of us to be. Carmel: School of Prayer is printed as part of the popular "Carmel in the World Paperbacks" series by the Carmelite Order's central publishing house in Rome (Edizioni Carmelitane). 285 pages. Description du livre : Edizioni Carmelitane, Rome, 2001. Soft Cover. État : New. First Edition. In this work Fr Joseph Chalmers, takes as his starting point the Marian year that the Order has been celebrating in 2001. He examines the foundations of Carmelite Marian spirituality and focuses on one aspect, that of Mary as she who listened to the Word of God and allowed that Word to shape her entire life. Maria Crocifissa Curcio, was born Rosa Curcio in Ispica, in the province of Ragusa in Sicily, on 30th January 1877. She moved to Santa Marinella on 3rd July 1925 with some companions and on 16th July this little group received the seal of approval from the Order through official affilation. After the end of the war, in December1947, Mother Curcio realized her dream of a mission in far off lands and sent her daughters to Brazil.
