LAID-IN is a peel & stick BOOKPLATE SIGNED by the author (4 x 3 inches). The signed plate was obtained from the author through an arrangement he has with a Toronto bookstore. Full blue cloth with silver titles and white end papers. The book is tight. Softening of the spine ends and the bottom corners of both boards are blunted. Tanning of the page edges, especially the first half of the text, and there is a slight spine roll. No markings by a previous owner or retailer. The jacket is bright and glossy and not priced, as issued. Wear to the heel and crown, including lifting of the laminate, a commonly found trait of the Collins edition. There is a short scratch in the surface of the back panel at the top edge with no colour loss, and a second scrape near the bottom edge. A diagonal crease in the front panel begins at the heel of the spine and proceeds for an inch or more. And there is another such crease in the front panel, running from the gutter to the top edge, but softer and unobtrusive. Autographed Canadian first printings of Tigana and of The Summer Tree, the opening book in the Tapestry, are also available from this bookseller. Canadian buyer will be charged GST.
