Film is the medium on which the photographic image is made, and as such is of paramount importance when taking photographs. Will a certain scene be dimly lit, and so need a faster film? Beginning with the basic technology and characteristics (contrast, grain, sharpness etc), Michael Freeman examines in detail each of the three main types of film - black-and-white, colour negative and colour transparency - looking at the newest technology, the different speeds of film, instant film, special types of film, and processing. Advice is given in such areas as judging exposure and taking readings from problem subjects, and choosing and using different types of filters. The last section of the book looks at the best methods of editing, filing and storing your pictures, including ways of duplicating the best ones.
