Biographie de l'auteur :
Leonid Shamkovich was born on June 1, 1923 in Rostov-on-Don in Russia. Shamkovich became a chess Grandmaster in 1965. In 1975 he became the first Soviet chess grandmaster to be allowed to emigrate from the Soviet Union. He went first to Israel and then to the USA. He was already a noted author on chess opening theory and analysis before he left the Soviet Union. His works had been studied deeply by Bobby Fischer. Upon reaching the USA, Shamkovich continued as a writer and analyst, with many tournament victories and with many published articles in Chess Life magazine and other publications. Shamkovich died in his home in Brooklyn New York on April 22, 2005. Eric Andrew Schiller was born 1955 in New York. He has served as an international organizer for FIDE, and also an international arbiter most notably for the Kramnik-Kasparov World Championship match. Mr. Schiller also captained several Pan-American Intercollegiate teams, as well as the World Youth Championship in Chicago. Over-the-board accomplishments include obtaining the USCF Life Master, and FIDE Master titles. He won the 1974 Illinois State Championship, and the 1995 Calchess State Championship. Schiller has also established himself as a prolific and popular author of a wide range of chess books.
Présentation de l'éditeur :
The Tarrasch Defense to the Queen's Gambit Declined, which arises after 1. d4 d5 2. c4 e6 3. Nc3 c5 is one of the most flexible systems at Black's disposal. It has been played by Paul Keres and by World Chess Champions Boris Spassky and Garry Kasparov. This new edition adds a number of illustrative games featuring many of the key variations. Taken into consideration are the recommendations for White in the repertoire books by John Watson and Larry Kaufman. In general, the theory of the opening has not changed much since the original book and the Tarrasch Defense remains a reliable weapon for Black.
