Présentation de l'éditeur :
Carl Froch, known as 'the Cobra', was brought up tough on a Nottingham housing estate. He started boxing at just nine years old, but as a teenager he gave it up and his life became an aimless round of dead end jobs and pub fights. However, his family wouldn't let him waste his life - they knew that what he needed was to get back in the ring. Luckily they succeeded, and Carl has never looked back.
Carl Froch is now Britain's world champion at super-middleweight with having won 26 fights (with 20 KOs). His greatest fights have already gone down in boxing history, culminating in his defeat of the American Jermain Taylor in defence of WBC title in April in 2009 and the boxing masterclass delivered against Arthur Abraham at the end of 2010. Knocked down for the first time in his career by Taylor, he was behind on everyone's scorecard but his own, until, with just 14 seconds of the fight to go, he came back in spectacular fashion with a stunning knock out.
Carl Froch's revealing story from inside the high-stakes world of boxing pulls no punches, from his lost years through to his ascent to World Champion.
He is currently a contender for the title in the innovative new Super Six Boxing Classic, which pits the best six fighters in the world against each other in a round-robin tournament. With two wins and a close but disappointing loss to Mikkel Kessler, The Cobra follows Carl every step of the way as he prepares for the fight of his life - the most anticipated showdown of the tournament against Glen Johnson in May. Massive and unmissable, this fight will take Carl to a new high.
Quatrième de couverture :
Carl 'The Cobra' Froch is Britain's world champion at super middleweight. But it was no easy path.
He grew up a tough kid whose father encouraged him, at the age of nine, to go down the local gym, the Phoenix ABC in Gelding, Nottingham. But after a stunning early amateur career, he turned his back on the sport and went off the rails. Getting in with the wrong crowd, his life became a series of dead end jobs and pub fights. Urged back to the gym by his worried family, Carl was saved by boxing, returning two years later to win a bronze medal at the 2001 World Amateur Championships.
Carl turned pro the following year embarking on his defining relationship with mentor Rob McCracken. Within 18 months he'd captured the British title and taken the WBC crown in an unforgettable thriller against Jean Pascal. Since then his career has been defined by blisteringly tough fights: his last round knock-out of Jermain Taylor, his narrow points loss to Mikkel Kessler, and his masterclass against Arthur Abraham to regain his world belt.
Froch is a local hero with a big heart and a fanatical following who never takes the easy fights. This is Carl's story told in his own no-nonsense words - from growing up in a tough Nottingham pub to his mesmerising displays at the very top of world boxing.
