Synopsis
A classic tale of mystery and adventure in a Dorset smuggling village. John Trenchard is fifteen when his adventures begin. He lives with his aunt near to the sea in Moonfleet, but his peaceful existence is brought to a rapid end when he discoversa secret passage into the vault of the powerful Mohune family. Anticipating treasure, he finds instead a large cargo of contraband and is drawn into the world of smugglers. Forced to flee, John little guesses the trials he will face before he sets foot again in the village of Moonfleet.

J MEADE FALKNER (1858-1932) was the son of a clergyman. Educated at Oxford, he became a tutor to the children of Sir Andrew Noble. He was also an antiquarian and became honorary librarian to the dean and chapter of Durham Cathedral. He published three novels, THE LOST STRADIVARIUS, MOONFLEET and THE NEBULY COAT, and a volume of poetry was published in 1933.
