The authors are to be congratulated on the clear, non-fussy descriptions of techniques throughout the book, and the extremely high quality colour photography which complements the text . . . A book for undergraduates? Well yes, this is the main aim of the manual. And yet, as I read the book, I was reminded how far dentistry has come in the 23 years since I qualified and I was struck by the need for all general practitioners who have been qualified as long as I have (or longer!) to use this book as a refresher on all the procedures that modern dentistry can offer. If you have the opportunity, sitting with a glass of the red stuff, this would make a valuable refreshing read. Alternatively, it would give valuable help to a vocational trainer as a basis for a tutorial session with a VDP. (Dental Practice, Vol 42, No 11)

Pickard's Manual of Operative Dentistry has been and in my opinion still is the authoritative text on simple operative dentistry and should find a place on the shelves of all undergraduate dental students, student hygiene/therapists and student dental nurses.
