Gamble Distinguished Professor of Religious Studies and Asian Studies at Occidental College and the author of Philosophical Meditations on Zen Buddhism and Zen Ritual: Studies of Zen Theory in Practice, co-edited with Steven Heine, (OUP 2007). He lives in San Diego.
