9780198565802: Oxford Textbook of Primary Medical Care: 2-Volume Set

Now in an affordable paperback version! The Oxford Textbook of Primary Medical Care is the first comprehensive, international textbook covering all aspects of the most common form of medical care: primary care. Arranged in two sections, it covers the entire range of organizational, academic, and clinical activities associated with general practice, family medicine and primary care.

The first section deals with the principles of primary care. There are descriptions of health care systems throughout the world, extensive discussion of the doctor-patient interaction, the public health role of the primary care team, guidance on practice management, and broad coverage of research and education in primary care. This section is unique in its depth of coverage, international authorship, and quality of writing: there is nothing else like it available. The second, clinical section covers all the medical problems commonly seen in general practice worldwide, and is written by practising GPs with specialists. More than 200 chapters in this section provide a comprehensive overview of the clinical content of general practice with authoritative, detailed guidance on diagnosis, investigation, and management.

The editors represent a breadth of clinical and senior academic experience from Europe and North America and have selected a wide geographical spectrum of expert contributors.

Review :

`The publication of the Oxford Textbook of Primary Medical Care is an important event in the development of General Practice, Family Medicine and Primary Care, worldwide. This publication will serve clinicians, patients and communities well and in particular, provide many insights for those
health professionals who do not themselves work within primary care.'
Professor Dame Lesley Southgate, President, Royal College of General Practitioners (UK)

`Broad enough to establish a fundamental understanding of primary care, but detailed enough to use as a reference, the Oxford Textbook of Primary Medical Care is an impressive achievement and a useful tool for clinicians who practice primary care in today's environment. Its international and
expert authorship ensures full coverage of the field from multiple disciplinary and cultural perspectives and reveals the global impact and importance of primary care for all nations. Highly recommended.'
Dr James C. Martin, President, American Academy of Family Physicians
