These charming depictions of kitchen maids, elegant young ladies, hunters, drinkers, and amorous couples have gained Metsu a place among the most celebrated painters of seventeenth-century Holland. Adriaan E. Waiboer is Curator of Northern European Art at the National Gallery of Ireland, Dublin, where he curated the Gabriel Metsu exhibition in 2010.
