Présentation de l'éditeur :

There's only one book that ever truly got inside the Beatles and this is it. The landmark, worldwide bestseller that has grown with the Beatles ever since.

During 1967 and 1968 Hunter Davies spent eighteen months with the Beatles at the peak of their powers as they defined a generation and rewrote popular music. As their only ever authorised biographer he had unparalleled access - not just to John, Paul, George and Ringo but to friends, family and colleagues. There when it mattered, he collected a wealth of intimate and revealing material that still makes this the classic Beatles book - the one all other biographers look to.

Hunter Davies remained close with the band and as such has had access to more information over the years. This 40th anniversary edition contains new material which has never been revealed before, from the author's archives and from the Beatles themselves, that will bring new insights to their legend.

Biographie de l'auteur :
Hunter Davies is a prolific British author, journalist and broadcaster, best known for writing the only authorised biography of The Beatles. As a journalist he worked on the Sunday Times, where he was chief features writer, and later editor of the Magazine. He wrote regular columns for Punch and currently writes for The New Statesman, the Guardian, The Sunday Times and the Daily Mail. For three years he presented Bookshelf on BBC Radio 4. He is the author of over thirty books, including biographies, novels and children's novels. He has ghosted everyone from Gazza and Wayne Rooney to John Prescott. He is also the author of one of the most classic football books of all time, The Glory Game, and his own autobiography, The Beatles, Football and Me.

Description du livre Hardcover. Etat : Very Good. Etat de la jaquette : Very Good. Alan Aldridge [Jacket design] (illustrateur). First Edition. First impression of the true first edition, published in the UK by William Heinemann in September 1968. With 32 pages of monochrome photographs. Classic 1960s jacket design by Alan Aldridge. ***Very good in purple cloth-covered boards with gilt titles to the spine. The gilt is still beautifully bright. The boards are clean and unmarked. Head and tail of spine slightly creased. There is a light vertical reading crease to the spine. Corners sharp. No tears to the cloth. The top edge and fore edge of the text block are discoloured and lightly foxed. Internally also very good with no inscriptions. No tears or creases to the pages. Slight offsetting to the endpapers but interior pages clean. ***In a very good illustrated dustwrapper with some marks and creasing commensurate with age and handling. The dustwrapper has been corner price-clipped, but is otherwise complete, without any chips - just some light creasing at the extremities. There is a 2cm closed tear at the top of the spine with some associated creasing to the top of the back panel. Dustwrapper clean - just slightly browned with age. ***374 pages including a complete Discography and The Beatles Finances at the back of the book. 222 mm x145 mm. ***Contents: Introduction, Part One: Liverpool, Part Two: London and the World, Part Three: Today, Appendix A - The Beatles' Songs, Appendix B - The Beatles' Finances. ***'Throughout this biography the Beatles are talking about themselves, then and now. This is their story, mainly in their own words, showing warts and all. For those who still believe their public image as four clean sweet mop-heads, the warts will be a surprise. There is no attempt to condone or condemn, to explain or analyse. This is a biographical record out of which emerges the elements which formed them, from John and Paul's personalities to the creation of their present-day songs. By illuminating the facts the reasons for their success become apparent. The details of what Brian Epstein did for them are made clear and so are the events leading up to his death, a death which in many ways summed up an age. This is not a fan book, though the author is a fan and Beatle fans throughout the world will find it fascinating. It is a social document of our times.' [Quote taken from the front and back flaps of the dustwrapper] ***'"The Beatles: The Authorised Biography" is a book written by British author Hunter Davies and published by Heinemann in the UK in September 1968. It was written with the full cooperation of the Beatles and chronicles the band's career up until early 1968, two years before their break-up. It was the only authorised biography of the Beatles written during their career. Davies published revised editions of the book in 1978, 1982, 1985, 2002 and 2009. According to Davies, the authorised history was initially viewed as "quite daring and revealing", particularly in the US, and to quote the Beatles using the word "fuck" was "most unusual in a popular book at the time". Jonathan Gould considers it to be a worthy account of the band's history. He says that, aside from its few factual errors, the book deserves its status as an authoritative source for subsequent Beatles biographies. [Wiki] ***First impression of the true UK first edition, in nice original condition, with some wear commensurate with age and handling. ***For all our books, postage is charged at cost, allowing for packaging: any shipping rates indicated on ABE are an average only: we will reduce the P & P charge where appropriate - please contact us for postal rates for heavier books and sets etc. N° de réf. du vendeur 7962
