Detroit businessman Harry Mitchell has had only one affair in his twenty-two years of happy matrimony. Unfortunately, someone caught his indiscretion on film and now wants Harry to fork over one hundred grand to keep his infidelity a secret. And if Harry doesn’t pay up, the blackmailer and his associates plan to press a lot harder—up to and including homicide, if necessary.
But the psychos picked the wrong pigeon for their murderous scam. Because Harry Mitchell doesn’t get mad...he gets even.
Elmore Leonard was born in New Orleans on 11 October 1925. He wrote forty-five books during his phenomenal career, including the bestsellers Mr Paradise, Tishomingo Blues, Be Cool and The Hot Kid. Many have been made into successful movies, including Get Shorty with John Travolta, Out of Sight with George Clooney and Rum Punch, which became Tarantino's Jackie Brown. He is the recipient of the Cartier Diamond Dagger Award and the PEN USA Lifetime Achievement Award. He died on 20 August 2013 in Detroit.

"Harry Mitchell (Roy Scheider) is a successful businessman with mechanical aptitude living in the suburbs of Los Angeles whose wife Barbara (Ann-Margret) is running for city council. Harry is confronted by three hooded blackmailers who demand $105,000 per year for a videotape of him and the mistress, Cini (Kelly Preston) , with whom he has been having an affair. Because of his wife's political aspirations he cannot go to the police. Harry's stubborn inclination is to not surrender to the threats, and when his lawyer advises him that paying the blackmailers won't ensure that they go away, he refuses to pay.
