Erica Jong is the author of nineteen books of poetry, fiction, and memoir, including Fear of Flying, which has more than 18 million copies in print worldwide. Her most recent essays have appeared in The New York Times Book Review, and she is a frequent guest on television talk shows. Currently working on a novel featuring Isadora Wing—the heroine of Fear of Flying—as a woman of a certain age, Erica and her lawyer husband live in New York City and Connecticut. Her daughter, Molly Jong-Fast, is also an author.
Erica Jong left a Ph.D. program at Columbia to write her ground-breaking novel Fear of Flying, published in 1973. Jong is the author of numerous award-winning books of poetry and novels including Fanny, How to Save Your Own Life, Parachutes and Kisses, Any Woman’s Blues, and the forthcoming Sappho’s Leap. She is also the author of the memoir Fear of Fifty. She lives in New York City and Connecticut.
Erica Jong--like Isadora Wing, her fictional doppelganger--was rich and famous, brainy and beautiful, and soaring high with erotica and marijuana in 1977, the year this book was first published. Erica/Isadora are the perfect literary and libidinous guides for those readers who want to learn about-or just be reminded of-the sheer hedonistic innocence of the time. How to Save Your Own Life was praised by People for being "shameless, sex-saturated and a joy," and hailed by Anthony Burgess as one of the ninety-nine best novels published in English since 1939.

Vendeur : Crappy Old Books, Barry, Royaume-Uni
Hardback. Etat : Good. How to Save Your Own Life (1977) by Erica Jong (Secker & Warburg) Sold by Crappy Old Books Divorced, liberated, and thoroughly disillusioned, Isadora Wing is back?and this time, she?s unfiltered, unapologetic, and just barely holding it together. In this raucous sequel to Fear of Flying , Erica Jong dives headfirst into the chaos of 1970s America: fame, film stars, feminism, and fleeting flings on both coasts. It?s messy. It?s loud. It?s got more emotional turbulence than a mid-life crisis on acid. And somehow, it?s still profound. This edition comes with all the wear and tear you?d expect from a book that?s been dropped, dog-eared, and possibly judged by every boyfriend you?ve ever had. Perfect for fans of brutally honest women and the literary equivalent of a long, soul-searching scream into the void. Buy it. Save yourself. Or at least laugh while trying. Very good condition hardback with dust jacket. First edition. N° de réf. du vendeur 3881

But the book is also about fame, Hollywood, sexual experimentation. ***One by one the myths are explored and exploded: literary fame, Hollywood, glamour--- (Quote from inside front of dustwrapper blurb). ***Erica Jong (née Mann; born March 26, 1942) is an American novelist, satirist, and poet, known particularly for her 1973 first novel Fear of Flying. The book is mainly the account of Isadora Wing, a woman in her late twenties, trying to find who she is and where she is going. The book became famously controversial for its attitudes towards female sexuality and figured prominently in the development of second-wave feminism. The saga of thwarted fulfillment of Isadora Wing continued in two further novels "How to Save Your Own Life"(1977) and "Parachutes & Kisses"(1984). ***First reprint of the first UK edition, complete in its original dustwrapper, in extremely nice, clean bright condition. ***For all our books, postage is charged at cost, allowing for packaging: any shipping rates indicated on ABE are an average only: we will reduce the P & P charge where appropriate - please contact us for postal rates for heavier books and sets etc. N° de réf. du vendeur 6206x
