A prolific writer, bestselling novelist, and world-renowned philosopher, Ayn Rand defined a full system of thought--from epistemology to aesthetics. Her writing is so extensive and the range of issues she covers so enormous that those interested in finding her discussions of a given topic may have to search through many sources to locate the relevant passage. The Ayn Rand Lexicon brings together all the key ideas of her philosophy of Objectivism. Begun under Rand's supervision, this unique volume is an invaluable guide to her philosophy or reason, self-interest and laissez-faire capitalism--the philosophy so brilliantly dramatized in her novels The Fountainhead, We the Living, and Anthem.
Born February 2, 1905, Ayn Rand published her first novel, We the Living, in 1936. Anthem followed in 1938. It was with the publication of The Fountainhead (1943) and Atlas Shrugged (1957) that she achieved her spectacular success. Rand’s unique philosophy, Objectivism, has gained a worldwide audience. The fundamentals of her philosophy are put forth in three nonfiction books, Introduction to Objectivist Epistemology, The Virtues of Selfishness, and Capitalism: The Unknown Ideal. They are all available in Signet editions, as is the magnificent statement of her artistic credo, The Romantic Manifesto.

Because her writing is so extensive and the range of issues she covers so massive, it can be difficult for the reader to know where in her many books to look for a specific formulation or topic. The Ayn Rand Lexicon~with an Introduction by Miss Rand's literary executor, Leonard Peikoff~is the definitive guide to the works of one of the most important writers of our century. A highly accessible compilation of key statements on over 400 topics in philosophy and related fields, the hundreds of entries in this exhaustively researched work are arranged alphabetically~from abortion, absolutes, abstraction, and agnosticism through to welfore state, words, xenophobia, and zero (reification of). The index and cross~references provide quick and easy access to specific topics or passages in Ayn Rand's articles, essays, lectures, and books. Harry Binswanger has skillfully and accurately excerpted not only Rand's familiar works, but also the more obscure and little~known sources. This is a unique volume that brings together for the first time all the key ideas of Objectivism, the philosophy brilliantly dramatized in Ayn Rand's novels We the Living, The Fountainhead, and Atlas Shrugged. The passages offered for each topic are selfcontained, self~intelligible, and arranged in a logical sequence, with each excerpt building on the earlier ones. The Lexicon, begun during Ayn Rand's lifetime, with her approval and supervision, is a fascinating and illuminating guide to her original philosophy of reason, self~interest, and laissez~faire capitalism. The book is successful as both an intriguing introduction for the newcomer, and a comprehensive sourcebook for readers already familiar with Objectivist ideas. N° de réf. du vendeur 11201101
