Description du livre Hardcover. Etat : Very Good. Etat de la jaquette : Very Good. Jacket and illustrations by Diana Stanley and Tim Parker (illustrateur). 1st Edition. First collected editionin this edition, first impression. Some slight edge wear to top and bottom of jacket and spine, spine possibly very slightly faded (difficult to tell), not price clipped (£12.95), no inscriptions, internally clean tight and square, overall a vg+ copy for its age. 632pp, illustrated endpapers. 'The Borrowers', Pod, Homily and Arrietty are a family of tiny people who live beneath the floor. Everything they have is borrowed from the 'human beans' who don't even know they exist. Arrietty, the only child, is allowed to go borrowing, but ends up making friends with 'the boy upstairs'. Mary Kathleen Norton (1903-92), spent much of her childhood in a late Georgian house which later became the model for Firbank Hall in THE BORROWERS. For a year she acted at the Old Vic before getting married and going to live in Portugal. During the Second World War she was evacuated to New York and struggled to support herself and her four children while her husband was in the Navy. It was then that she began to write, and in 1945 her first children's book, THE MAGIC BEDKNOB, later combined with BONFIRES AND BROOMSTICKS in a single volume, BEDKNOB AND BROOMSTICK, was published. This was followed in 1952 by THE BORROWERS series, which was awarded the Carnegie Medal. Quite scarce. N° de réf. du vendeur 011499
