Herold's autobiographical erotic tales take the reader through his spiritual search and exploration of his gay sexuality. The illustrated stories begin with his unique stint in the Navy, followed by art studies in Paris, travels in Europe, a period of monastic monkhood, artistic success in California and finally settling down with a life partner in Hollywood. Critics referred to Herold as the 'West Coast Andy Warhol', where he became friends with Jim Morrison of the Doors, and created the first of the now famous White Parties.www.rickherold.com

Born in Cleveland, Ohio - 1941. After serving in the U.S. Navy, HEROLD began his art interests as an art student at Academie Julian in Paris, France. Following this, he traveled across Europe for three years, after which he received a scholarship to study Religious Church Art and Architecture at the Benedictine Monastic University of St. John in Minnesota, majoring in both Theology and Art, receiving a BA. Subsequently Herold went to Otis Art Institute in Los Angeles on scholarship for a four year post graduate program in Architectural Arts, receiving an MFA. Upon graduation he received commissions from Bob Hope to do the Stations of the Cross for a church in Cleveland and worked with Millard Sheets doing architectural art. While doing a commission for the Los Angeles Diocese Seminary Chapel, there was a conflict with the Cardinal of Los Angeles over Modern Art leading to a disillusionment with the Business Establishment and Organized Religion. HEROLD then turned to painting the NUDE, came out gay, and acquired a life-partner. His first one-man show at the Feigen-Palmer Gallery in Los Angeles of the sensual and erotic nude was a Hollywood media success. This lead to many exhibits and future one-man shows at the Molly Barnes Gallery, the Orlando Gallery in Los Angeles and the Zara Gallery in San Francisco. Solo museum exhibits included the Downey Museum of Art in California, Gay National Archive at USC, West Cork Art Centre, Ireland and the Kauai Art Museum, Hawaii. Group shows include the University of Redlands, Cal State LA, San Francisco Museum of Modern Art: Tattoo, Gallery of Erotic Art, New York, Long Beach Museum, Palomar College, San Diego Art Museum and Glendale College, plus being represented in major private collections. After years of exhibiting, HEROLD now paints the classical male nude and homo-erotica in his gallery/studio which sits on extensive grounds overlooking a lake and mountains in North County San Diego. The Gallery is open to visitors - appointment can be made by E-Mail: RicknDale@Hughes.Net. Visit his website at RickHerold.com.
