Stating this as the issue that poets and critics have faced in the past century, Charles Hartman takes up the challenge and develops a theory of prosody that includes the most characteristic forms of twentieth-century poetryOriginally published in 1981. Charles O. Hartman has published six collections of poems and three critical books: Free Verse, Jazz Text, and Virtual Muse. He is Poet in Residence at Connecticut College, and plays jazz guitar.
