William J Fishman is the chronicler of London's East End. He is the son of an immigrant tailor, and lived in the East End - for many years afterwards organising guided walks through the area. He became a Visiting Professor at Queen Mary College, University of London. His other books for Five Leaves include Streets of East London, East End 1888 and The Insurrectionists.
