Sound Innovations: Ensemble Development ist eine wertvolle Quelle für Schüler und fördert deren Verständnis und Fähigkeiten als Ensemblemusiker. Es enthält 412 Übungen, darunter über 70 Choräle von renommierten zeitgenössischen Concert-Band-Komponisten. Die Übungen sind nach Tonarten zusammengefasst und in verschiedenen Schwierigkeitsgraden notiert. Die Übungen der einzelnen Kategorien sind abwechslungsreich, verfolgen jedoch trotzdem das Ziel des jeweiligen Übungstyps. Viele Übungen und Choräle enthalten dynamische Zeichen sowie Artikulations-, Stil- und Tempoangaben für die Schüler, damit sie diese üben können. Andere Übungen sind bewusst flexibel gestaltet, damit der Lehrer festlegen kann, wie er sie für die Ziele und Bedürfnisse seines Ensembles am besten einsetzen kann. Ob die Schüler mit den Übungen ihre technischen Fähigkeiten verbessern oder mit den Chorälen ihr Talent unter Beweis stellen wollen: Das Buch kann auf jeden Fall im Anschluss an jede Schule für Concert Band oder als Ergänzung zur Spielliteratur verwendet werden.
