Présentation de l'éditeur :
WAR LETTERS is the most comprehensive and powerful collection of American war correspondence ever assembled. Since 1998, when 'Dear Abby' and NIGHTLINE promoted Andrew Carroll's Legacy Project, more than 50,000 never before seen letters poured in from around America. In this historic anthology, Carroll features more than 150 of these letters, encompassing every major conflict from the Civil War to Desert Storm.
Readers will be moved and inspired by poignant declarations of love; vivid accounts of famous battles; profound reflections on the nature of warfare; gripping tales of rescues and escapes; and many more unforgettable expressions of fear, loneliness, humour, anger and patriotism by common soldiers, sailors, nurses, spies, journalists, POWs and family members back home. WAR LETTERS also features previously unpublished letters by such historical figures as Theodore Roosevelt, Colin Powell, George S. Patton, Helen Keller, Clara Barton and John F. Kennedy.
Carroll has said that this endeavour is 'more than a book; it's a mission.' In capturing the full horror, heartbreak, intensity, and pathos of warfare, WAR LETTERS pays tribute to the men and women who have fought for peace and celebrates the enduring power and lyricism of personal letters.
