‘I may have led England to a World Cup victory, but Jane Tomlinson’s achievements . . . leave me feeling positively humble.
Jane is quite simply an inspiration. There is no other word to describe her. She is truly a great British heroine, even though she’d doubtless be embarrassed by that description. But what else can you say about a woman who has dedicated six years since being diagnosed with terminal cancer to selflessly raising over £1 million for her charity causes.
The series of marathons, triathlons, Ironman events and cycling challenges she has undertaken during that time would prove daunting to the vast majority of professional sportsmen. Her courage and sheer determination beggar belief, and reinforce her message that a terminal cancer prognosis can still involve an active and fruitful life.’

‘Mother of three Jane was diagnosed with incurable breast cancer in 2000. Since then, she has completed many astonishing endurance races, raising nearly £1,500, 000 for charity. Every moment is heroic and moving from training for marathons while undergoing chemotherapy, to taking morphine as she cycled across America in 2006’

‘Life after Jane’
Interview with Mike in Good Housekeeping Magazine Jan issue
In January 2005 Jane and Mike Tomlinson announced that they had reached their £1 million charity fund-raising target. In YOU CAN'T TAKE IT WITH YOU, the Tomlinsons explain how they achieved that incredible goal, and why Jane, who has a terminal cancer diagnosis, chose to put her long-suffering body through such difficult experiences. The book takes us from Jane and her brother Luke's cycle ride from John O'Groats to Lands End with Jane stopping twice for chemotherapy en route, on to her incredible ride with Luke from Rome to Leeds and then out to Florida for the full Ironman triathlon. This last challenge is almost inconceivable to the average person involving as it does a 2.5-mile swim, a 112-mile cycle and then a full marathon run. Battling severe pain, Jane completed the course in 15 hours and 48 minutes. This summer Jane cycled from San Francisco to New York, an epic 6,700-kilometre journey that took her to breathtaking altitudes and through searing heat. But Jane's ultimate goals are rather more straight-forward. She would simply like to live long enough to see her daughters and young son grow towards independence and to experience every day to its utmost.
