PreSchool-Grade 1?Bright, cheerful watercolor- and-ink cartoons will draw children to these fanciful titles. The stories are extremely simple, but the repetitive texts and the silly animal characters will have youngsters asking for repeated readings. In Buzz, the type twists and turns as readers follow Bumblebee across the warm-weather scenes. Each creature he encounters tells him to "Buzz off!" until, at last, he meets a friend. In I Don't Care, Bear walks blithely through a winter landscape, unfazed by the growing number of large or ferocious animals following him. He freaks out when he realizes that a "teeny-weeny mouse" is among them. Don't worry about reality here?it's easy to accept a snake in the snow, for example, especially a green one with pink spots. Bumblebee's story follows a pattern, and Bear's tale is cumulative and full of rhyming words. Both will be a success in story programs.?Darcy Schild, Schwegler Elementary School, Lawrence, KS

Ages 3^-5. Short, snappy, and funny. "A moose is on the loose," a tiny voice tells the bear, who's walking along with his nose in the air. The bear doesn't realize the voice belongs to a teeny-weeny mouse, who goes on to inform the bear that there's also a goose on the loose, as well as a pig who is big, and a snake from the lake. The bear, who is unaware of the parade of animals following him, remains disdainful until he turns around. And then, it's the sight of the mouse, not the bigger, scarier critters, that makes the bear run for his lair. The story is cumulative, and so are the engaging cartoon-style pictures that add an animal in every spread. The story-hour crowd will enjoy following the fun. Ilene Cooper
