Synopsis

Dopo quattro anni Raymond Stantz, Egon Spengler, Peter Venkman, i bizzarri "acchiappafantasmi", sono di nuovo chiamati ad operare in New York con i loro altrettano curiosi marchingegni. Due, Raymond ed Egon, vivacchiano sulle festicciole dei bambini, il terzo, Peter, intrattiene una rubrica TV sui fenomeni del paranormale. Pianta tutto - loro, più Winston Zeddemore, un collaboratore - il giorno in cui la carrozzina dell'amica Dana Barrett, che porta a spasso il figlio Oscar di otto mesi, fa giravolte folli in pieno traffico, quasi misteriosamente guidata da una forza occulta. A parere di Egon, nel sottosuolo risiede quella strana energia: loro scavano e scoprono una ripugnante melma gelatinosa che, a seguito delle reazioni emotive degli esseri umani, emette malefiche energie. Dana lavora presso la sezione restauro di un grande Museo, diretta da Janos (un ungherese immigrato innamorato di lei), il quale è in contatto metapsichico con una voce minacciosa, scaturente da un quadro. Essa appartiene a Vigo, un antico principe-mago, dominatore dei Carpazi che ora si è messo a richiedere un bambino per rivivere in lui ed avere tutto il mondo nelle proprie mani. Intanto gli "acchiappafantasmi", processati per scavo abusivo in pieno centro metropolitano, tornano in auge per avere folgorato e scacciato i fantasmi piombati in Tribunale. Frattanto la melma gelatinosa comincia piano piano ad invadere New York. Gli acchiappafantasmi cono convinti - e il computer sembra dare loro ragione - che alla base di tutto vi sia proprio quel Vigo mago e prepotente. Mentre la cittadinanza sembra impazzita dal terrore, Raymond pensa che essa ha bisogno di un simbolo, il quale aiuti tutti a non aver paura e a battere quella muraglia di repellente gelatina che ha avvolto, in forma di enorme mela, il museo, Peter, Egon e Raymond si installano in cima alla statua della Libertà, questa si anima e a lenti passi, risale dalle acque su per la Quinta Strada, poi come un uragano di cocci di ferraglia si abbatte sul museo, dove all'interno si trovano anche Dana e Oscar. Janos muore, Dana e Oscar sono salvati da Peter, che insulta il malefico Vigo e lo incenerisce per sempre mentre la melma gelatinosa si sfilaccia ed evapora nell'aria.

Beaucoup moins amusant que le premier film, cette suite de 1989 commence par une remarque triste qui indique au spectateur que les héros de SOS Fantômes ont été des clochards pendant cinq ans, et que le personnage principal de Bill Murray n'a pas eu d'histoire d'amour avec le personnage de Sigourney Weaver. De plus, celle-ci a eu un enfant d'un autre père. Tout ce petit monde est en train de remonter la pente, mais SOS Fantômes 2 ne décolle jamais, même si Ivan Reitman (Dave, Kindergarten Cop) est de nouveau à la réalisation. Dans ce scénario bancal, les garçons essaient d'empêcher une catastrophe de se produire dans la ville de New York. Heureusement que les scénaristes Dan Aykroyd et Harold Ramis ont écrit quelques bonnes répliques pour Bill Murray, et, si les effets spéciaux de fantômes ne surprennent plus comme dans le premier film, ils restent inventifs. --Tom Keogh
