9780786660575: The Mighty Accordion

The Mighty Accordion is a truly unique and much-needed guide to playing the bass side of the accordion. A comprehensive collection of progressive exercises guide the student in learning and mastering bass/chord patterns. For the beginner, the first few chapters assume little or no knowledge of the instrument and teach how to play simple accompaniment patterns. Uses of the major, minor and seventh chords are explained, with numerous exercises offered to develop skill in executing various bass/chord accompaniment patterns. For the advanced player, latter chapters present exercises on chord combinations needed to play sixth, minor seventh, major seventh and ninth chords, and other advance techniques. Throughout the book, explanations are offered on the workings of the instrument and relevant music theory. Play along with a 2-CD companion set featuring many of the book's exercises played at both a slow and moderate tempo. * A much-needed and complete guide to playing the bass side of the accordion * A comprehensive collection of progressive exercises for learning bass/chord patterns on the accordion * Beginner students learn simple accompaniment patterns and use of the major, minor and seventh chords * Advanced students learn how to play sixth, minor and major sevenths and ninth chords, and other advance techniques * Companion CDs feature many of the book's exercises

About the Author :

David DiGiuseppe's musical career began at the tender age of three in the local barber shop, where he was often lifted onto a chair and encouraged to sing his favorite songs. At the impressionable age of eight, he was taking accordion lessons, becoming a model student at Petteruti's School of Music in Providence, Rhode Island. By twelve, the accordion was in the closet and Beatles' tunes could be heard emanating from his guitar. In 1984, DiGiuseppe "rediscovered" the accordion. Now a nationally recognized accordionist, DiGiuseppe is known for his fiery and emotive playing, and is equally at home performing Irish tunes in a pub, French musettes in a cabaret, contra or Cajun music for a dance, or in the intimate setting of a concert hall. DiGiuseppe plays for contra dances throughout the US with his bands FootLoose and Contrazz. He also works in concert with his ensemble Craicdown. DiGiuseppe has released three recordings showcasing his playing on music from Celtic, Parisian and American traditions. Reviewer John O Regan of Ireland wrote, ...a player of immense talent and vision, David is a musician worth encountering. DiGiuseppe is also featured on four releases with his band FootLoose, a new CD with Contrazz, a new CD release by Craicdown, and appears on numerous CDs backing other musicians.
