Citing examples of bodies, clothed and unclothed, in scenes of nurturance, duplicity and violation, this book examines multiple images and understandings of gender and sexuality from television, comic books and other mass media in Japan. These examples include sexually explicit scenes of rape and brutality mass-marketed in comic books for both children and adults, stories of mother-son incest and, in the face of rampant pornography, the hypocrisy of obscenity laws prohibiting the visibility of pubic hair in public media.
