9780836196887: Revolutionary Christian Citizenship (Yoder for Everyone)

Too many believers today have lost a sense of their true home in God's alternative society. Revolutionary Christian Citizenship is about following the Apostle Paul's call to be "ambassadors for Christ." It is about living now in light of the world to come. It is about being "exiles and strangers" whose ambition is not merely to survive but to sow seeds of God's peace.

In this volume of addresses and articles-many unpublished to this point-Yoder is more accessible and practical than in some of his better-known theological works. He equips us to represent Christ faithfully to all sectors of the world in which we live. Read this book to learn how the lordship of Christ applies to every aspect of life. Learn how to wage peace in a world of war and to bridge the gap between faith and politics.

Second volume in the Challenge to the Church series, a collection of John Howard Yoder's writings and addresses formatted and edited for a new generation.

About the Author :

John Howard Yoder (1927-97) taught ethics and theology as a professor at Notre Dame University and Associated Mennonite Biblical Seminary and was perhaps the most well-known Mennonite theologian in the twentieth century. Widely sought around the world as a theological educator, ethicist, and interpreter of biblical pacifism, he is best known for his study on The Politics of Jesus. Yoder is also remembered for his long-term sexual harassment and abuse of women. Click here for more on Herald Press and John Howard Yoder.

Review :

"His essay on paying taxes is worth the price of the book."

--Stanley Hauerwas"professor of theological ethics, Duke Divinity School" (08/22/2013)

"Finally! Yoder's keen thinking is made accessible to the average reader. Christians sorely need to hear Yoder's call to keep the gospel central as we navigate the challenge of citizenship in the current empire."

--Rachelle Lyndaker Schlabach"director of Mennonite Central Committee, U.S. Washington Office" (08/22/2013)

"Yoder in his own words, speaking to the church, cuts repeatedly to the heart of essential questions regarding Christian discipleship."

--Lee C. Camp"host of TokensShow.com and author of Mere Discipleship" (08/22/2013)

Description du livre Herald Press (VA), 2013. Paperback. État : New. Language: English . Brand New Book. In a world where many believers have lost a sense of their true home in God s alternative society, Revolutionary Christian Citizenship addresses the difficulties of being both a follower of Jesus and a citizen of a political nation. Down-to-earth and original, theologian John Howard Yoder challenges traditional understanding of politics and reconsiders Christian citizenship in three parts: the witness of Jesus, the witness of the church, and witness in action. More accessible and practical than most of Yoder s works, Revolutionary Christian Citizenship bridges the gap between faith and politics, equipping us to faithfully represent Christ in society and wage peace in a world of war. Book Two in the Yoder for Everyone series. N° de réf. du libraire AAC9780836196887
