No notes or highlighting. See images. Fantastic book. About the book >.>.> Poussin did not end with such extremes as the Rouen picture. The precise chronology of the other works executed at this same is unclear but this terming severity seemed to be taking over. The overt inconsistence of Poussin's development is proved by the one painting which can be securely dared to 1638 by Felibien, the Lougee Moses saved from the Water, Without such evidence it would be tempting to place the painting rather later than the Rouen picture. The composition is totally static, the main figures being grouped together in the scene. None of the movement found in the Suoments is apparent and therefore its dating comes as an immense surprise at this stage of Poussin's development. Such a lack of compromise is a strong characteristic of his art in the late 1640s and early 1650s. A far more powerful composition is the Louvre Arcadia Ego This has long been one of Poussin's most celebrated pictures: The theme is already familiar from the Chatsworth version of the same.
