The corners of the book are bumped as is the spine with discoloration at top of first several pages. The book is INSCRIBED BY THE AUTHOR to the previous owner on the title page and includes a letter from the author to the previous owner. End pages are a maps of the world with the route Palmer took from Australia to Lands End, England. The dust jacket (now in Brodart jacket cover) has several large tears with a chip missing at top of spine. Black and white photos. The author relates his experience of the vessel he was aboard being sunk by a U-boat in WWI; of then joining the Royal Navy. As a Reserve Officer he was called to duty in WWII and assigned the duty of landing commandos in North Africa. His experience in WWII are remarkable. 384 pages plus Index to Illustrations. He became an expert on Chinese trade. During World War 2 (WW2) he joined the Royal Navy, where he ran supplies to the besieged soldiers at Tobruk, and his experiences as a POW after his ship sunk in the Mediterranean.
