Description du livre Hardcover. Etat : Fine. A member of the legendary Bauhaus, Andor Weininger (1899-1986), produced a fascinating body of work, attaining his greatest success with the Mechanical Stage-Review, a kind of moving abstract painting. Fleeing the National Socialists, Weininger emigrated to Canada where he produced an eclectic body of work, ranging from landscape sketches to calligraphic abstract works. Yet his correspondence with Bauhaus figures such as Walter Gropius and Xanti Schawinsky revealed a frustration with the conservative cultural scene. Produced upon the occasion of a major gift from New York's Weininger Foundation to several Canadian institutions, this publication takes a close look at Weininger in Canada, situating his career within the context of the emergent Canadian abstract art scene. Weininger's work can be found in the collections of the MoMA, Metropolitan Museum of Art and the Busch-Reisinger Museum at Harvard University. N° de réf. du vendeur 000947

Description du livre Hardcover. Etat : Fine. 1st Edition. In excellent condition. 280 pages, large hardcover in pictorial boards, 10.25" by 8.75". Exceptional book published for a Canadian exhibition on Bauhaus founder and artist Andor Weininger and the work he produced in the 1950's upon emigration to Canada. Extensively researched and very handsomely designed, with over 400 illustrations of knockout geometric and abstracted work in numerous media: paintings, graphic art, interior design, stage work, and more. Loaded with dynamic, freely formed, iconic work distilling the strategies of the Bauhaus in a clearly defined 50's Modernist style. Great book. N° de réf. du vendeur ABE-1709009329463

Description du livre Hardcover. First Edition. pp. 277. Square 8vo. Pictorial boards. Richly illustrated with hundreds of black-and-white, and colour photographs, portraits, illustrations, etc. Slightest spine slant, else, bright, clean and unmarked; near fine. SIGNED in ink by the author to the title page. Andor Weininger (1899-1986) was a founder and member of the Bauhaus where he produced a fascinating body of work, mostly related to the avant-garde stage, attaining his greatest success with the Mechanical Stage-Review, a kind of moving abstract painting. Fleeing the National Socialists, Weininger emigrated to Canada where, in the 1950s, he produced a remarkably eclectic body of work, ranging from sketches of Lake Ontario to free, calligraphic abstract works. Yet his correspondence with Bauhaus figures such as Walter Gropius and Xanti Schawinsky reveals a frustration with the conservative cultural scene. Produced upon the occasion of a gift of over 150 works from New York's Weininger Foundation to several Canadian art institutions, this publication takes a close look at Weininger in Canada, situating the career of this significant European Modernist within the context of the emergent Canadian abstract art scene. Weininger's work can be found in the collections of the Museum of Modern Art, the Metropolitan Museum of Art, the Busch-Reisinger Museum at Harvard University, and in many European collections. Published with Gallery One One One, University of Manitoba. N° de réf. du vendeur 6897
