Description du livre viii,412 Pp.B&w photo illus. throughout Translated by Michael Mende and Robert J. Edwards Major-General Kurt Meyer, at thirty-three the youngest general in the German armed forces, was charged as a war criminal for the murders of forty-three Canadian soldiers by troops under his command. A military court-martial convened at Aurrich, Germany, in December 1945, presided over by Major-General Harry Foster, who had commanded the murdered men. After a two week trial, Meyer was convicted and sentenced to death although no evidence ever came to prove that he had ordered the killings. In January 1946 the death penalty was commuted to a life sentence and in April he was shipped to Dorchester Prison in Nova Scotia, Canada.
