Celestine Keise's study contributes to the growing body of knowledge that is helping us towards eradicating bullying and harassment in our schools. The study, carried out in single-sex girls' school and a single sex boys' school, dispels the myths that bullying is mainly the prerogative of boys and that single sex girls schools are safer environments for all girls than mixed schools. In her position as an LEA Inspector, Celestine Keise was uniquely placed to examine the role that the school management structure and the general ethos of the school play in bullying. Schools set the behavioural standards for students which, in turn, have obvious effects on achievement. The author offers an account of the actions taken by the schools that significantly reduced levels of bullying and offers important recommendations for others concerned to do the same.
