Afficher les exemplaires de cette édition ISBNFor over thirty years, John Julius Norwich has been sending out his Christmas Crackers a personal collection of quirky quotes and literary odds and ends to his friends instead of a Christmas card.
In September 2007 an invited audience enjoyed a special performance by John Julius Norwich of a selection from his Christmas Crackers at the Jermyn Street Theatre in London to benefit the Venice in Peril Fund. Listeners to this CD can share the delight of the live audience as John Julius entertains us with a compilation of anecdote, prose, poetry and even song that is as charmingly conceived as it is delightfully performed.
The Venice in Peril Fund was created after the great flood of 1966. Since then the Fund has disbursed millions of pounds for the restoration of Venetian monuments, buildings and works of art.
John Julius Norwich is a historian and author of many books including, Byzantium, A History of Venice, and The Middle Sea.
He is chairman of the Venice in Peril Fund, Co-chairman of the World Monuments Fund and a former member of the Executive Committee of the National Trust. He is a Fellow of the Royal Society of Literature, the Royal Geographical Society and the Society of Antiquaries, and a Commendatore of the Ordine al Merito della Repubblica Italiana. He was made a CVO in 1993.

Description du livre Soft cover. Etat : Fine. 1st Edition. Wrappers. John Julius Norwich (John Julius Cooper, Viscount Norwich, 1929-2018) published the first selection from his entertaining commonplace book, "as a sort of glorified Christmas card", in 1970, subsidizing it by selling a few copies through two friendly booksellers. After the first year's sold out, he increased the print order for the next year's, "in a reckless burst of optimism", from 200 to 300. Since then, there have been three anthologies of his selections, an anthology of his anthologies (illustrated by Quentin Blake) and a CD, and A Christmas Cracker as a theatre performance. But there is no substitute for the original elegant yearly pamphlets in their assorted (mostly) patterned covers. N° de réf. du vendeur T138013
