It's rare that a comic book is given its own soundtrack, rarer still when the soundtrack is written by the comic's own illustrator! With Malevolent Melody, Mcbess has given us both in one neat package. The story centers on the exploits of shipwrecked amnesiac McB, whose attempts to remember the melody of a certain song trigger spontaneous choruses from pirates, alpine giants, and Amazonian women. Accompanied by a vinyl 7" featuring songs by Mcbess' band The Dead Pirates, the book's pages are lit up by the pulsating rhythm and blues recorded to sync and mimic the comic's storyline.
McBess moved to London a few years ago after graduating from the celebrated French animation school Supinfocom. After almost immediately being taken into his present employment at The Mill, he has been active in both the illustration and the contemporary gallery scene, having held successful solo shows in London, Paris and Chicago. McBess has recently broken new ground with his recent commission to design a toy as well as the packaging for the brand new Kidrobot Dunny Twotone series.
