He is also a TV personality, author, teacher and entrepreneur. He is one of the most exciting and engaging up-and-coming chefs in the UK, passionately promoting his native Malaysian cuisine. With over 60,000 Facebook fans and appearances on MasterChef Malaysia, Chef Norman has achieved much since opening his first Ning restaurant & cookery school in Manchester in 2006, with a branch in York and a supper club in London. He was chef for the Malaysian Formula One team in 2010, finalist for Malaysia s National Outstanding Achievement Awards in 2011 and is currently the UK s Young Asian & Oriental Chef of the Year. He has launched his own range of food products and is planning a third cookbook. Born in Penang, the food capital of Malaysia, he has achieved much in just 6 years as a professional chef. In 2012 he was awarded Young Asian & Oriental Chef of the Year at the Asian Curry Awards, along with his Manchester restaurant as Best Malaysian Restaurant, and entered into the Hospitality Guild's prestigious Young Hall of Fame. He was also a finalist in the 1st Malaysia National Achievement Awards for outstanding achievement in his field. He frequently runs master classes, cooking demonstrations and pop-up cookery schools at many of the UK & Ireland's top foodie events. Engaging and enterprising, Norman is interactive in his approach and entrepreneurial in his outlook. In 2012 he launched his own Malaysian spiced range of handmade chocolate bars, and is working on other products for 2013/14. He has hosted his own TV cooking series and featured more than once on MasterChef Malaysia. He is former race chef for the Lotus Racing (now Caterham) F1 team and has been recognised by Prestige Magazine as one of Malaysia's 'Top 40 Under 40'. Chef Norman is also a past finalist for Manchester s Chef of the Year, along with Ning as Restaurant of the Year. Self-taught and mentored by his late mother, Norman has featured extensively in the British and Malaysian press, on TV and at food festivals, written his own sell-out books, caters for VIP events and regularly leads Malaysian cookery classes. His ambition is to make Malaysian food big in the UK - at least on par with the popularity of Indian, Chinese & Thai cuisine - and in so doing to be the Malaysian face of Malaysian food.
