Sex sells! Since moving pictures were invented, nothing promotes a movie better than unashamedly sexual advertising. X-rated adult movies reached their peak in the 1960s and 70s, with films like Debbie Does Dallas and Deep Throat. This was the period that saw X move into arthouse cinemas for the first time, attracting a fashionable young crowd and critical praise. This 'porno chic' movement had an air of credibility that had never existed before (or since). The stars of the genre - Marilyn Chambers, Linda Lovelace, John Holmes - became the new A-list and (almost) household names. When the softcore masterpiece Emmanuelle was released in 1974, one of the most respected designers in the business - the original Mad Man Steve Frankfurt - was even persuaded to work on the poster campaign. Of course, such sophistication was an exception. More often than not the posters were crudely printed "cut and paste" collages featuring the over-endowed regulars of the B-movie circuit. Tony Nourmand is the founder and Editor-in-Chief of R|A|P. He comes to publishing from a successful career in gallery ownership, art and film. Graham Marsh is an art director, illustrator and writer who has released many groundbreaking visual books, including The Cover Art of Blue Note Records. His most recent projects include the pocket-sized The Ivy Look, the illustrated children's book, Max and the Lost Note and the coffee-table tome, Hollywood and the Ivy Look. Peter Doggett has been writing professionally for more than thirty years. Some of his many best-selling books include Are You Ready For The Country, There's A Riot Going On, You Never Give Me Your Money and The Man Who Sold The World.
