Nicaragua is located in the heart of the Americas where species converge from North and South America, and approximately 710 species of birds have been recorded here. The geography is relatively flat with a maximum altitude of 2438 metres. The country is divided into three biogeographic regions: Pacific, Central, and Caribbean.
