Présentation de l'éditeur :
One of the true classics of American literature, Peter Newell's "The Rocket Book," has stirred the imagination of young and old alike for over four generations. Originally published in 1912 by Harper & Brothers, New York, it was the first children's book of its kind, a book about a rocket's incredible journey, floor by floor, through a 21-floor New York apartment. This lavishly produced facsimile of the rare first edition of the Rocket Book by JANES Works Company contains all 22 of Peter Newell's original watercolors and the colorful pictorial binding that make the 100th Anniversary Edition of The Rocket Book so special and enduring. What makes the Special publication of the 100th Anniversary Edition of the Rocket Book so "special" is that it includes 22 new, never-before-seen illustrations, 44 in all. Not only do you get Peter Newell's original 22 watercolors, but you will also get 22 additional illustrations created just for this edition that depict each floor just BEFORE the rocket comes screaming through. And for an interactive experience of The Rocket Book, be sure to check out the app "JANES Rocket Book" by JANES Works Company, coming soon to the Apple App Store, Android Market, Amazon Apps, and the Nook App store.
Biographie de l'auteur :
Peter Sheaf Hersey Newell (1862 –1924), born during the American Civil War on 5 March 1862 near Rice Corners, in McDonough County, Illinois. Peter was the last of four children of George Frederick Newell, a wagon-maker, and Louisa N. Newell. "I broke out," he later recalled, "the same time as the Civil War did, in a crossroads in the country in MacDonough County, Illinois." He lived in that area until 1883 when he moved to New York, where he enrolled at Art Students League. By the fall of 1883 his work was published in New York Graphic and Harper's Bazaar. Newell began his career painting portraits, using crayons as a medium, before turning to children's book. Besides his own books, Newell illustrated Mark Twain's Innocents Abroad and Lewis Carroll's Alice in Wonderland and Through the Looking Glass.
