Présentation de l'éditeur :
Wagner music-drama, and wants to know, first and chiefly, what it is all about. Technicalities have been avoided as far as possible, the one aim being to give lovers of opera a clear understanding of the several works in theW agnerian repertoire, with such facts about their history, about the original sources of their texts, and so on, as seem likely to heighten the listeners interest and appreciation. Each of the music-dramas dealt with, Parsifal excepted, has formed the subject of a separate volume issued by the publishers in a series devoted to the Great Operas. In thus bringing the individual Wagner volumes within one cover, I have tried to eliminate all repetitions and other overlapping matter, and to give the work such unity as is attainable under the circumstances. My obligations are due, more or less, to all the leading writers on Wagner and his works. They are especially due to my friend Miss J. C.
