Adam Jones, Ph.D., was born in Singapore in 1963, and grew up in England and Canada. He is currently Professor of Political Science at the University of British Columbia Okanagan in Kelowna, BC. Jones was selected as one of Fifty Key Thinkers on the Holocaust and Genocide for the book of that title, edited by Paul Bartrop and Steven Jacobs (Routledge, 2010). He has published various sole-authored and edited works on genocide and related themes, including The Scourge of Genocide: Essays and Reflections (2013), New Directions in Genocide Research (2012), and Gender Inclusive: Essays on Violence, Men, and Feminist International Relations (2008), all with Routledge; Gendercide and Genocide (Vanderbilt University Press, 2004); and Genocide, War Crimes and the West: History and Complicity (Zed Books, 2004). He has also published books about mass media and political transition, based on his doctoral fieldwork in Russia, Nicaragua, South Africa, and Jordan. Jones has lived and/or travelled in over 100 countries on every populated continent. His "Global Photo Archive" of more than 15,000 Creative Commons images has been used online by The New York Times, The Washington Post, the BBC, The Guardian, and The Atlantic, among many others (see http://www.flickr.com/adam_jones/sets/). In recent years, Jones has served as review editor of the Journal of Genocide Research, and as an expert consultant for the United Nations Office of the Special Adviser for the Prevention of Genocide, based in New York City.
