This book was originally published prior to 1923, and represents a reproduction of an important historical work, maintaining the same format as the original work. The word logistics has been in the United States barely more than a century. For most of this period, member of the profession of arms, as well as military historians and theorists, have had difficulty in agreeing on its precise definition. Even today, the meaning of logistics is somewhat inexact- despite its frequent appearance in official and unofficial military dictionaries and it lengthy definition in service and joint regulations.
