Présentation de l'éditeur

It has been my ambition and life work to find the root causes for economic changes. Poultney Bigelow well says in his late work on Prussianism and Pacifism7 :T here is no moment in the life of a nation more important than any other. Wars and famines, earthquakes and pestilences these make convenient aids to memory and help to fasten the attention of uncritical readers. But if history is to serve humanity, its duty is to lay bare the causes of disaster and thus help the legislator to frame better laws for the future. All history is bound up in the human problems of personal and national finance personal and national protection to daily subsistence. I visited Europe in the first six months of the war to find its causes, and published my observations in The Audacious Wat. I went to Europe again in the summer and fall of 1918, viewed the scarred battlefields and the devastated cities, traveled the highis.

Paperback. Etat : New. Print on Demand. This book examines the global political landscape and financial markets immediately following the end of the Great War. The author traveled through Europe to understand the costs and human toll brought on by the war, and how England, the United States, and other nations would recover and prevent future conflict. The text discusses political problems at home and abroad, the needs for reform across the world, and the rebuilding of an international community. It also details the author's observations of the League of Nations as it was first established. The author posits that England suffered the most during the war because of its heavy reliance on foreign manufacturing and the loss of its skilled labor force. The text also points out other factors that contributed to England's financial distress, such as its reliance on coal exports, which had diminished during the war. The author argues that England's recovery depends on its ability to increase production and efficiency while reducing costs. However, the author remains optimistic about the future of international relations, believing that the League of Nations can play a vital role in preventing future wars.
