This book was originally published prior to 1923, and represents a reproduction of an important historical work, maintaining the same format as the original work. While some publishers have opted to apply OCR (optical character recognition) technology to the process, we believe this leads to sub-optimal results (frequent typographical errors, strange characters and confusing formatting) and does not adequately preserve the historical character of the original artifact. We believe this work is culturally important in its original archival form. This volume is intended to help those who are called upon to preach and teach, and on this account the material is set out largely in outline form. It is a great satisfaction to know that a former book, The Apostle Peter, covering his life and writings, has been found of service to fellow-workers. I hope the present work will be similarly useful, and will also provide an introduction to the larger books included in the Bibliography, all of which, though often varying greatly in their attitude to Scripture and in their spiritual teaching, have been consulted or otherwise used in the preparation of The Apostle John W. H.
