Synopsis

Excerpt from The Structure and Distribution of Coral Reefs: Being the First Part of the Geology of the Voyage of the Beagle, Under the Command of Capt. Fitzroy, R. N

For all that distinguishes the present from the second edition the reader has to thank Professor bonney. He has added occasional footnotes (distinguished by square brackets), and he has given, in the form of an appendix, a careful summary of the more important memoirs published since 187 4.

My own contribution is merely the fulfilment of a pleasant duty - the expression of my sincere gratitude to Professor Bonney for the ready kindness with which he undertook a difficult task, and for the care and skill with which he has completed it.

Paperback. Etat : New. Print on Demand. This book details the author's examination of the natural history of coral reef formation. It is meticulously researched and populated with observations from the author's firsthand travels throughout the Pacific and Indian Oceans during the voyage of the HMS Beagle. Traveling aboard the HMS Beagle, the author, Charles Darwin, carefully studied the natural history of the places he visited and recorded his observations and theories on the formation of coral reefs. He shared his detailed descriptions and observations of atolls, or lagoon islands, as well as barrier and fringing reefs. His theory, presented in this book, is that coral reefs are formed by the gradual growth of coral polyps, which build up from the bottom of the sea to create the structures and landforms that we see today. Darwinâs work, based on extensive research, provided a significant contribution to our understanding of the natural world and the formation of coral reefs, continuing to influence and inform scientific thought on the subject. This book is a reproduction of an important historical work, digitally reconstructed using state-of-the-art technology to preserve the original format. In rare cases, an imperfection in the original, such as a blemish or missing page, may be replicated in the book. print-on-demand item. N° de réf. du vendeur 9781331979883_0
