Paperback. Etat : New. Print on Demand. this book is an introduction to the German language for English speaking beginners. It follows in the footsteps of Gustavus Fischer's "Practical Course in the German Language", originally written over a century ago, and is the fourth edition of an update and revision to that work. The author has preserved the core of Fischer's method- presenting learners with progressively more complex sentences to translate from English to German and vice versa, while gradually expanding their vocabulary. The author has reorganized and revised the content of the lessons to make this approach more effective for students in the 21st century, and also included new rules and vocabulary that were not part of Fischer's original work. Unlike other German language learning texts of its time, this book is notable for its rejection of unnecessary complexity. The author observes that other works present material organized around linguistic minutiae that are ultimately unhelpful to beginners, and instead has structured the lessons around practical everyday language. This book also avoids the use of English cognates, which while they can help beginners piece together the general idea of a sentence, can become crutches and hinder fluency in the long term. This book is a reproduction of an important historical work, digitally reconstructed using state-of-the-art technology to preserve the original format. In rare cases, an imperfection in the original, such as a blemish or missing page, may be replicated in the book. print-on-demand item. N° de réf. du vendeur 9781332947256_0
