The results ot these researches were elnbodied i a single volume, ot which a limited number ot copies were printed and distributed -an authorâs catalogue, including all the material then in hand. Since its issue he has had an opportunity to isit the national libraries ot lingland aml France, as well asa number otâ private ones in both these countries, and to revisit a considerable number in this country and Canada. A sutlieient amount ot new material has thus been collected to lead to the beliet that a series of eatalogues nay well be irepared, eaeh reterring to one of the more prominent groups ot our native languages. Ot this series three have been published, relating respectively to the Eskimanan, the Sionan, and the I roqnoian families. The present; is the fourth, and the tlt th, now in preparation, will relate to the A lgonquian. The family IIEIIIICS employed in these catalogues are taken from the linguistic map in course ot construction by the Bureau ut Ethnology. Their adoption tor that work is based upon the lav ot priority. I uthe compilation ot this catalogue the aim has been to include everything, printed or i manuscript, relating to the snbiect-books, pamphlets, articles in magazines, traets, serials, etc., and sneh reviews and announcements ot publications as seemed worthy ot notice. The dictionary plan has been followed to its extreme limit, the subject aml tribal ilulexes, references to libraries, etc., being inehuled in oe alphabetic series.
