In the literature concernino Verdi, the ereat mans English experiences have been studiously neglected. We learn about Verdi in I taly, also in France ;but scarcely anything is recorded respecting Verdi in England the land which, more than any other country, served to make and enrich Verdi. It is to show more of the English side of the famous maestrds career that the present book is written. It may, probably will be, long years ere Italy will have another such son to worship. A tone-worker like Verdi is rare.
